Question 1: Recreation Infrastructure?
What do you believe are Abbotsford’s greatest recreation
infrastructure needs over the next 10–15 years, and what would be your
top priorities if elected?
Answer: Here are my thoughts. . .
Abby’s greatest recreation needs are high, but infrastructure is low and
getting more costly as time goes on. Planning for 2050 started in 2016
and the new OCP was only finally adopted in 2025.
We can’t ignore the very basics that all communities ask for: indoor &
outdoor recreation spaces and venues for competitive events.
Everyday we suffer a shortfall in our offerings for our expected new growth.
I commit to prioritizing recreational spaces including a review of the
newly approved ice sheets and pool.
My board experience ensures that we continue the relationship with the
school district for joint use opportunities.
Question 2: New Aquatic Facility & Ice Sheets?
Council recently approved plans for a new aquatic facility and two new
ice sheets. Do you believe these projects adequately address
Abbotsford’s long-term recreation needs? Why or why not?
Answer: Here are my thoughts. . .
The newly approved projects, while not adequate, are a start and the
next Council can responsibly increase the number of projects.
Ongoing public consultation along with fiscally responsible
acceleration of master plans will help expand to meet community needs.
School district data shows that young families are moving in, not
away, so we need to ensure our children and youth have safe spaces.
Large sporting communities need infrastructure for sports, and
athletes should not have to leave the area to compete. Ensuring
families have low-cost alternatives to spend quality time together,
for the aging to use these same spaces for healthy lifestyles, is
vital.
Question 3: Growth for Abbotsford?
If elected, how will you help ensure recreation continues to be
prioritized as Abbotsford grows?
Answer: Here are my thoughts. . .
Recreation is the 2nd highest funded priority, with policing currently first in
Abby. I will work to ensure access to recreation remains a
high priority.
When we fund recreation, we are funding policing, as recreation keeps youth
off the streets.
We are funding the overall health of our community and providing seniors with a safe space to build health and social
circles.
An example of my advocacy and persistence, as the PRC Commission Chair
(2 years) in my 2005-2008 term I brought forward the Grade 5 Active
